Green Energy Act Would Spur Growth of Green Energy
By admin | February 11, 2009
As it is currently proposed, the Green Energy Act to be introduced into the Ontario legislature this month, would help start to eliminate the present hurdles facing new renewable energy projects.
If passed the Green Energy Act could make it much easier to produce green energy via new biofuel plants, solar panel installations, and new wind power turbine projects. It has the potential to make Ontario Canada a leader in creating new renewable energy sources. It will also at this crucial time create needed green jobs to replace the massive declines in good paying traditional manufacturing jobs.
This bill will help strengthen the long-term outlook of Ontario by helping to support and expand upon economic investment in green technologies. It could create up to 50,000 direct and indirect green jobs in the next three years. Great news for those now looking for work! The Green Energy Act will also help develop a better electricity grid. As it is Ontario has managed to bring online nearly 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy since 2003.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty said of the upcoming bill, “Ontarians are looking for action on renewable energy. We are securing jobs and a greener future by moving more quickly on worthwhile projects. We need those jobs, and we need to clean up the air.”
By 2012 it is estimated that Ontario will have some 975 wind power turbines in operation. Ontario is already Canada’s leader in this field and produces enough wind-borne green power to supply over 300,000 households.
