Sustainable Master Planning?
By GreenCompany | March 18, 2009
The main goal of an Sustainable Master Planning (SMP) project is to minimize the environmental impact of the development while enhancing human well-being. SMP is a macro analysis on how sustainability affects every aspect of the project. “Buildings are largely over-designed,” Ed Smith, CEO of Cobalt Design and Management Ltd. said during a recent interview in Cobalt’s Vancouver offices. “Good design often means doing more with less”
Cobalt employs a proven methodology in solving potential obstacles that a building may encounter from design to operation. “(It) will help our clients to seamlessly implement cost-effective sustainable design solutions which will enable sustainable visions to become a reality,” Smith said. The consultant team will consider and provide sustainable design options based on the science to every aspect of the project including energy systems, urban planning, architectural and any site design elements. Complex modeling and analysis can be done to determine all of the factors involved and to provide an urban plan, engineering and architectural design scheme to deal with the local climate resulting in the most sustainable and comfortable environment possible. Modeling will assist the team in passive design concepts of the buildings and in comparing and assessing highly energy-efficient engineering systems with traditional systems.
Sounds like a mouthful, but a great idea. Using our resources in an efficient way now so that future generations can meet their own needs later. For more information, check out Cobalt Engineering Ltd.
