As part of the first annual 50 Million Tree Weekend, family friendly tree planting events are going on across Ontario. This Mother’s Day weekend presents an opportunity to celebrate with your mother and family by planting the seeds for your own family tree planting legacy.
Trees Ontario expects to plant some two million trees during the Ontario government’s 50 Million Tree program. The goal is to have 50 million trees planted across southern Ontario by the year 2020. This goal if achieved would be the largest tree planting program as part of the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign. The United Nations Billion Tree Campaign seeks to have over one billion trees planted each year.
Your family can join the likes of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Ontario and various town mayors in helping to fight climate change while helping to green the province. The government of Ontario in August 2007, established a program in order to fund the planting of 50 million trees in southern Ontario.
Even those who have never planted a tree before will have no problem doing their part as Trees Ontario planting partners and experts in forestry will be on hand giving tutorials on proper planting techniques. Those participating can expect the total planting time to be about two hours, with each planting event taking about four hours total.
