As part of an a new initiative by the Partners in Project Green and currently being headed up by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, the areas near to the Pearson airport in Toronto are seeing creative ways to help business reduce their resource costs while greening their bottom lines. Businesses have readily taken to this project and more are continually coming on board as a way to help them reduce their energy and resource costs while helping to be more environmentally friendly.
For instance, the GTAA has so far reduced their energy costs by some $4 million annually and local company Lange Transportation has seen their natural gas bills be reduced by some $60,000 through their installation of a geo-thermal system. Molson has lowered their natural gas demand by 39%, electricity usage by 27% and their water use has dropped by some 36%! Unisource Canada is using these success stories in their dealings at their Mississauga Ontario plant.
Project Green is not stopping there either, as on October 15th they launched a new program – the Clinton Climate Initiative Purchasing Alliance. Through the CCI PA more local area business can also now green their bottom lines. Area businesses will now be able to take advantage of discounts of up to 45% on green products and services including green building envelope technology. These discounts are extended to things such as HVAC, lighting, and green roofing solution systems. Together these green products can help companies reduce their annual energy requirements and monetary costs while heating and cooling their buildings.
Through the leverage offered by incremental sales opportunities, the CCI PA will hep further the adoption of green energy products worldwide. Partners in this include the City of Toronto and Partners in Project Green. To this Brian Denney the CAO of Toronto and Region Conservation said, “The Clinton Climate Initiative Purchasing Alliance is another way in which Partners in Project Green is helping businesses green their bottom line. Partners in Project Green is able to deliver innovative programs and projects such as the new Purchasing Alliance.”
The Pearson Eco-Business Zone has attracted interest and inclusion from such companies as Canadian Tire, Bayer Inc., Unilever, and Enersource Corporation amongst others. The Cities of Mississauga, Brampton, and Toronto are also taking part.
