Wind Power Generation Continues To Grow

By GreenCompany | December 12, 2009

Wind power technology has raced so far into the future that wind farms are now being slated for vast expanses of privately owned land throughout the Midwest United States, the prairies in Canada and now even offshore near the Queen Charlotte Islands in British Columbia. Existing wind farms in China and other nations show that advancing micro-climates and other factors are concretely influencing global efforts regarding sustainable living.

Horizontal and vertical wind power turbines are working now to fulfill the national and global electrical need, as well as small specially sited areas in direct wind flow pattern areas. Siting for a wind turbine is critical as wind that flows to drive the wind turbine over 55 mph can damage rotor blades. Turbine blades can be adjusted with respect to pitch to alter incoming wind to safe and production flow.

Wind energy is green energy, and the wind turbine machines that “farm” the energy need to be plotted on a mapped site according to airflow. Farmer’s almanacs and atlases can assist in pinpointing windy locations and conditions, but the site will be the most efficient possible to capture optimum wind flow. Larger air turbines are more effective per site as one wind turbine can capture a larger amount of energy with longer blades. Smaller and less industrial wind turbine machines can be used for backup electricity and off-grid living. Leased land can optionally utilize ideal wind flow for horizontal and vertical wine turbines.

Considerations of siting wind power turbines are noise and shadow for nearby occupants. Hence the need for planned wind “farms” where the density of wind turbines prevents any neighbors from objecting. The body of the wind turbine motor is called the nacelle and the brake mechanism halts power so the gear shaft generates steady flow of indrawn stored electrical power. Wind turbine operators use gauges and voltage readouts to maintain normal wind turbine operation in association with current wind speed.

Wind turbine manufacturers for home wind turbines and farm and estate wind turbines are still a competitive alpha breed, with new improvements coming in each generation of wind turbine product. Wind power channels the energy of the natural wind current to the turning of heavy and long turbine fans blades, which contribute the turning of a rotor driving a generator gear shaft.

As technology expands and more companies move into wind power turbine construction and installation the cost will continue to come down while electrical output will continue to grow. A clean green future is getting closer.
