By GreenCompany | August 4, 2010

For many companies going green has become a part of who they are and one of the highest priorities on their to do list. If your company isn’t currently green you may be sending potential clients to your competitors who have made the switch. Going green not only helps the environment but it can help to give outsiders such as new customers or investors a whole new outlook on your company as a whole.

Regardless of what kind of business you own there are simple things you can do to get you and your staff on the right track to going green. Recycling is considered a big step in going green. Simply recycle anything that you can include soda cans, glass, newspapers, ink, and other office products that is recyclable. You can even help local schools out by donating them to help then earn new school or playground equipment.

Many companies leave lights and computers on even when they are heading home for the day. When you have finished your shift and before heading home turn off any electrical appliances that could possibly be wasting electricity such as fax machines, computers, printers, monitors, and even security lights. You will stop wasting electricity and even save yourself money overtime. If you do need to leave lights on you may opt to use energy efficient light bulbs which can help you to save money and energy. This may also help to make you eligible for tax rebates or credits.

If you or your coworkers often eat at work instead of using disposable cups, plates and utensils you may opt to bring your own dishes which can help to save your company money and the environment at the same time. Disposable goods that are often found in offices require quite a bit of energy in order to be produced and transported. If for some reason you must keep disposable items on site choose only eco-friendly products.

For those businesses that are ready to go the extra mile you can now purchase a variety of eco-friendly products for your everyday needs including recycle containers, recycled paper, pens, fasteners, and cartridges. By environmentally green recycled paper for everyday office use has become almost common among many companies large and small. There are many companies who specialize in eco-friendly products and can sell you everything you need to go green at an affordable price. Going green has several pros including saving your company money and helping the environment at the same time. The only con is that you didn’t go green sooner.
