Carbon Neutral Shipping
By GreenCompany | July 9, 2010
Shipping items anywhere has always been a concern for the greenhouse gases they produce in the manufacture of the boxing materials and actual transport of the items. Most consumers choose one of large shipping companies to handle their product shipping needs and now UPS Canada is offering Canadian consumers a new carbon neutral shipping option.
Eco-conscious consumers can take advantage of this offer but at the present time will have to pay more for the option. This is disappointing as it will obviously lesson the numbers of people taking advantage of the option due to monetary restraints. UPS and other shipping companies should be doing this as standard practice – maybe for the future we hope.
UPS as the largest small package shipping company in North America, will allow their customers to neutralize their package shipments by calculating the overall carbon impact and then they will purchase carbon offsets on the customer’s behalf. UPS has thus far pledged to match offset purchases to the tune of $1 million for 2010.

Nissan LEAF Qualifies For $8,500 Incentive
By GreenCompany | June 24, 2010
The Nissan LEAF an electric vehicle we have highlighted before on Green Company Canada, will qualify for an $8500 incentive in the province of Ontario. The incentives offered will vary according to the battery size used in the vehicle and will range between $5000 and $8500. If the Nissan LEAF you purchase contains a 24 kwh battery you can be eligible for the $8500 purchase incentive.
But in what is usually typical of the Canadian market, the vehicle will be available elsewhere long before it makes an appearance in Canada. No good reasoning was given for this decision, but then as Canadians we just expect such nonsense. While Japan, the United States and Europe will see their citizens and businesses able to buy the first mass-produced all-electric vehicle later this year, Canadians will just have to sit and wait till some time in late 2011.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Lift Trucks
By GreenCompany | June 22, 2010
Those concerned about the environment have been waiting for announcements like this and one finally seems to have happened, and substantial enough to matter. Walmart Canada has awarded Air Liquide a contract to supply all the needed hydrogen and related infrastructure to power their new hydrogen powered fuel cell lift trucks for a new distribution centre in Alberta.
Anybody who has worked in a factory or transit warehouse knows how much pollution even a propane-powered lift truck can give off, so having a fleet of greener hydrogen powered lift trucks is a great step towards a greener transportation future. Not only are fuel cell forklift trucks among the fastest growing part of the hydrogen energy market in Canada, they give users an edge over battery powered trucks in terms of productivity and greenhouse gas emissions.

Installing Grid Tie Solar Inverters in Vehicles
By GreenCompany | June 12, 2010
Grid tie solar inverters are usually used to draw in solar energy and feed it back into the grid and electric company to help reduce the costs of the electric bill over time. These have several different uses and can be put into larger vehicles such RVs and Semi trucks that can be sure to make it possible to get some valuable energy for electrical means available for the vehicle or other applications. One of the most energy consuming things that you can do is hook up a device into the 12 volt connector cigarette lighter. Unless the vehicle is running with properly working alternator action, then the power consumed can be replaced and maintained but this also uses unnecessary fuel consumption.
